Gina is the mastermind behind the fashion-tabulous, poetic blog called, "Awed." Her photo album displays an array of original, creative collections which are sure to provide inspiration and motivation.
She ardently tests the boundaries of crochet with a conglomerate of updated generational styles, from early 1910's-esque high waistline, decorative boutique dresses to 1950's matching secretarial jacket and skirt combinations to modern reconstructed, abstract apparel. Interspliced amongst those are several designs featuring bold, afro-centric patterns. All of her designs showcase an attention to detail.
With a flaire for the unorthodox, Gina's styles are haute, haute, haute!

Others may interpret your being true to yourself as being
against them. When you are truly for who you are, you are not
against anyone.
You don't have to explain it. If somebody doesn't understand
what you are doing, it doesn't mean you have to explain it
to them.
It is enough for you to be yourself. Your actions speak
louder than words.
Do you own your life?
"The meaning of life is to give life meaning."
When we own our lives, we accept what we've inherited and the experiences we hold in our memories. We also claim our right to create new conditions if we're not happy with what's come before. We assume responsibility for changing what does not suit us. We acknowledge our own special talents and skills, and truly comprehend our right to enjoy the journey. In short, we embrace the meaning and purpose, the mystery and the beauty of our lives.
Do you feel that you own your life at the moment?
"I think of life itself now as a wonderful play that I've written for myself... and so my purpose is to have the utmost fun playing my part."
"Life is too short to be little."
"Every man dies, but not every man lives...."
One of my photographers, John Washington, just called me wondering if someone is stealing my designs....
"I haven't seen anything of your caliber here, so I thought someone was stealing from you..."
nah, isn't that sweet. He forwarded the link but
I know this crochet designer thru myspace, haven't met her personally. We've mentioned about doing a show in the future...
interesting, isn't it?
He wants to do a free photo shoot with 5-7 models of my designs---WHOOPPPPPPEEEEE!
BUSY LITTLE HOOKER-BEE I IS/BE, ha
intrepid \in-TREP-id\, adjective:
Fearless; bold; brave; undaunted; courageous; as an intrepid spirit.
"Cheerfulness keeps up a kind of daylight in the mind, and fills it with a steady and perpetual serenity." Joseph Addison, The Spectator
The more important elements needed in the equation are passion, courage,
focus, motivation, desire and follow-through. If we think we have to wait until all the stars are aligned and all our ideal conditions are met, we will never move any closer to our goals. Expecting it all up front typically leaves us with nothing. --barbara

"To do great work a man must be very idle as well as very industrious."
Many of us have been taught to believe that we are valued for what we do, not just for who we are. ‘Doing’ is important, but to keep life in balance, we also need time to just ‘be.’
"There were times when I could not afford to sacrifice the bloom of the present moment to any work, whether of the head or hand.
"Sometimes, on a summer morning, I sat in my sunny doorway from sunrise till noon, rapt in a revery, amidst the pines and hickories and sumacs, in undisturbed solitude and stillness, while the birds sang around or flitted noiseless through the house, until by the sun falling in at my west window, or the noise of some traveller's wagon on the distant highway, I was reminded of the lapse of time.
"I grew in those seasons like corn in the night, and they were far better than any work of the hands would have been." Henry David Thoreau
I do have to take HOOK BREAKS every now and then...when I run around, I'm running in circles and sometimes I wonder if they are "complete".
I started crocheting a pink skirt and will pair it with fuschia and lt pink fur--we'll see how that idea materializes. One of my models looks good in pink; so I'm making this design specially for her.
~~~~~~~~~~
oh!, check out that picture above. Now, this is an interesting turnout. On the day for the photoshoot at ARTon5 Gallery, I just had the one model to outfit. Well, the photographer called another model and he wanted a similar outfit in the LEAF DESIGN 5 minutes after she arrived and wanted the models to pair up. She just came over, I believe, to look at some photos he previously took of her. Well, earlier I was already getting bored (my hands start to twitch! -- they need a hook & thread) and started making little flowerets which just so worked with her "design". So THE IMPROMPTU, INTREPID HOOK was at it again! I LOVE IT! My spontaneous weapon of praise....
OH, see the falling leaves--yeah, I FALL IN LOVE with my hook, ha--see them, that was ME throwing them up in the air as he was taking the shot...gotta do what ya gotta do for creativity's sake! AND IT WORKS!
The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known loss, and have found their way out of the depths.
These persons have an appreciation, a sensitivity, and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness, and a deep, loving concern.
Beautiful people do not just happen.
Not sure what this week will bring, but I'll face it nonetheless....
So much to do, so little time--got rehearsel tonight for next Saturday's event, whew!
~~~~~~
This incident with my car on last Saturday had me in a bind emotionally, financially & spiritually but "this too shall pass" (hopefully soon)
(quick summary: car overheated at 3 pm on the highway, having to wait 30 minutes for the car to cool just to go a block or so in traffic twice, radiator had a crack, got sealant but had to wait 2 hours for it to harden, 9 pm back on the road, gone 1 mile, car stopped on a dark road, cell phone dead--no one to call, 15 minutes later, 2 Good Samaritans helped and took us home, my 2 daughters and I, got home 10ish....)
But I don't have a car so b/c my word is out there, I gotta rent one. Calling different companies but unable to have them pick me up...Called a friend from the neighborhood, Kelli--hey Girl!--"on my way". THANKS SO MUCH!!!!
Rented this 2006 Chevy Cobalt for 2 days so I can make rehearsel...plus my designer friend Lamar Clack is also in this venue and needs a ride. Gotta help out friends...and I gave my word I would get him to the rehearsels.
Note: Fashion "N Flow Showcase has been rescheduled for Nov. 4th....
Oh, here are some pictures of my children from last Saturday early morning for the "Painting with the Masters" at Arton5 Gallery for kids ages 5-18....I believe this cushioned the blow that was to inevitably happen later that day, whadya think?
| Your Hidden Talent |
![]() You tend to be full of new ideas and potential - big potential. Ideas like yours could change the world, if you build them. As long as you don't stop working on your dreams, you'll get there. |
I guess I'm a little bored rt about now....I shouldn't be tho--had the model for tomorrow's shoot show up, get fitted and take the design....One day I decided to quit...
I quit my job, my relationship, my
spirituality...
I wanted to quit my life.
I went to the woods to have one
last talk with God.
"God", I asked, "Can you give me one good reason not
to quit?"
His answer surprised me... "Look around", He said. "Do you see the fern and the bamboo?"
"Yes", I replied.
"When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them. I gave them light. I gave them water. The fern quickly grew from the earth. Its brilliant green covered the floor. Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.
In the second year, the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. And again,
nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.
He said. "In year three there was still nothing from the bamboo seed. But I
would not quit.
In year four, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed. I would not quit."
He said. "Then in the fifth year, a tiny sprout emerged from the earth.
Compared to the fern, it was seemingly small and insignificant...But just 6
months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall. It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to
survive.
I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle."
He asked me, "Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been
struggling, you have actually been growing roots". "I would not quit on the
bamboo. I will never quit on you." "Don't compare yourself to others."
He said. "The bamboo had a different Purpose than the fern. Yet they both make the forest beautiful." "Your time will come", God said to me. "You
will rise high."
"How high should I rise?" I asked.
"How high will the bamboo rise?" He asked in return.
"As high as it can?" I questioned.
"Yes." He said, "Give me glory by rising as high as you can."
I left the forest and brought back this story. I hope these words can help
you see that God will never give up on you. Never, Never, Never Give up.
For Prayer is not an option, but an opportunity.
Don't tell the Lord how big
the problem is, tell the problem how Great the Lord is!
Heavens door open this morning, God asked me... My CHILD... what can I do
for you?" and I said "Daddy please protect and bless the one reading this
message. God smiled and answered ... "request granted. Send this to ten
people at least so they too will have their lives in God's hands You
never know when GOD is going to bless you!! Good
things happen when we least expect them
We can do all things through Christ, who strengthens us.
"U R FIERCE!
My daughhters and I belong to a little crochet club in Philly. You are quite an inspiration, especially for my youngest daughter (age 12) who loves to crochet and breathes it daily! Please come out with a video, book or a webcourse. U R abosolutely incredible!
God Bless,
Ms. Brenda Lee
Brenda Lee's Dance Company!"
Sometimes I have too many ideas and not enough time. Do you know what internal struggles that causes?
procrastination can step in and park itself for a spell.
So, that's why I have to try harder to
reach forth
the hand--
We must hook not just look. HOOK, then we look at what we've hooked.
Oh, Lookie, Hookie: thread into fabric into design. Go future
The principal mark of genius is not perfection but originality, the opening of new frontiers.

Car is fixed; finances are broke....
gotta see a clearing hopefully soon!
In this life, I'm a woman. In my next life, I'd like to come back as a bear. When you're a bear, you get to hibernate. You do nothing but sleep for six months. I could deal with that.
Before you hibernate, you're supposed to eat yourself stupid. I could deal with that.
When you're a girl bear, you birth your children (who are the size of walnuts) while you're sleeping and wake to partially grown, cute, cuddly cubs. I could definitely deal with that.
If you're a mama bear, everyone knows you mean business. You swat anyone who bothers your cubs. If your cubs get out of line, you swat them too. I could deal with that.
If you're a bear, your mate EXPECTS you to wake up growling. He EXPECTS that you will have hairy legs and excess body fat.
Yup, gonna be a bear!

Receiving a clearing from a dark night yesterday--whew!
making this story extremely short:
"Painting with the Masters" art classes at arton5 Gallery for ages 5 - 18 in Atlanta--brought along my 2 youngest
heading home...
car overheated 3pm, on highway, guy pulls over 30 mins later to give me water for the car, next exit got coolant and filled up 2 gallons, went to service station--they're closing in 15 mins; told to lv car, I needed sealant, given a different addy for auto parts 4 lights away, car has to cool down 30 mins, 2 lights away car overheated, went into Lowes to get duct tape for quick fix, twice car overheated, location they told me closed at 5pm not 7pm like they said, got gas for car told of another location, found it--PEP BOYS, no mechanic on duty, got sealant have to wait 2 hours (they'll be closing 1 hour shy of my wait time), ate at Steak n Shake with my kids--oh yeah, they're w/me!, 9pm heading back on the road no steam but car's overheating, I'm crying & upset, pulled off next exit and stopped on the road, phone is dead well on 1 bar of battery time left, cars whizzing by, one person stopped 15 mins later, put water on my radiator and told me to pull into the parking lot, gave me his phone to call someone but he & his wife took us home....
A FRIEND IS NOW COMING TO PICK ME UP AND GET MY CAR TOWED TO A SERVICE STATION....
pray much for me--I'm exhausted!
but I'm bringing my hook along--need some stimulation!
